An inspired re-imagining of the tale of Esther, a young Jewish woman thrust from a life of obscurity into a life of power, wealth, intrigue . . . and tender love.
See the story of Esther in an entirely new way-with all the political intrigue and tension you remember, but told as a passionate and tender love story between a young man and woman. Misunderstood by many, King Xerxes was a powerful but lonely man. Esther's beauty caught the eye of the young king, but it was her spirit that captured his heart.
Imagine anew the story of Esther, one of our faith's great heroines, destined to play a key role in the history of Christianity.
My first impression upon starting this book was that the writing was a bit dry, but once I got past the first chapter or two I was hooked. Overall I really enjoyed this book. Its a relatively short read and Wolf does take some liberties with the storyline in relation to the Biblical one but she does it very well. It takes place in such a great setting and the characters are well developed and intriguing. Very cool to see the story of Esther from her perspective as well as all the little historical details that Wolf wrote in. The story between Esther and the King is very romantic without becoming mushy not that I have a problem with mushy and I think Wolf did an excellent job of showing more than one side of the coin so to speak. She represented Esthers perspective as well as the Kings with grace and the end result was brilliant. I hope she writes more like this one soon, it will be at the top of my list.
