Two young, Christian, teachers, Penelope Chaney and Jane White, take jobs at a rural school in Beech Hollow located in the foothills of the Appalachian mountains of Kentucky. The school building was run down and had been left in dire need of repairs. The homes of the children even worse. Penelope and Jane boarded with a lovely, Christian widow, they called Aunt Em. Here, in these mountains, the girls fall in love with two Christian, young men. One is a mining Engineer and the other is the local Doctor. Beech Hollow tells the story of their hardships and struggles of living in atown that was seemingly fifty years behind the times. It involves the age old mountain life's problems, such as pride, poverty, bootlegging, midwives, and lack of medical help diseases and even murder. The challenges were great, but through tears, frustration, fear, prayers and a trust in God they overcame many obstacles. At all times they knew that were in the hands of God.
