Synopsis

This cold-war thriller, winner of the British Crime Writers' Association's 2005 Ian Fleming Steel Dagger Award, is set weeks before the fall of the Berlin Wall. In September, 1989, the Stasi threaten the family of one of its ex-agents to force that former employee, art historian Rudi Rosenharte, to collect important intel from another ex-agent, his old flame, Annalise Schering. Can Rudi save his brother from the terrible fate the Stasi have devised for him, or will the Stasi discover what Rudi already knows--that Annalise committed suicide before he was sent on this mission?
