A Classic Novel About the Pursuit of Personal Fulfillment--First Time Ever on CD!
A brilliant psychological portrait of a troubled young man's quest for self-awareness, this coming-of-age novel achieved instant critical and popular acclaim upon its 1919 publication. A landmark in the history of 20th-century literature, it reflects the author's preoccupation with the duality of human nature and the pursuit of spiritual fulfillment.
Presented unabridged on 5 CDs.
Returning to this short novel 40 years after first reading it, it now seems stilted and pretentious. This is only made worse much, much worse by the abosolutely awful, talentless narrator, Jeff Woodman. The books translation may also have been poor, but Woodman makes it almost unlistenable. Listening to this made me wonder why I ever thought Herman Hesse was cool. But I should really blame BBC Audio, of all people!, for this mess.
