Everyone's kind of used to seeing dragons and strong heroes but who's actually seen these common fantasy plot devices used convincingly? What's really cool about Ward is that he knows his limits and he's just that much more sympathetic and real for doing so. He is still a really good person but his goodness is really believable--he's not just some paragon of idealism. I really enjoyed reading not just about Ward but about the world that he inhabits and the people around him. This book isn't predictable at all and Ward's voice is very strong in this book. I was really happy to hear about the sequel and hopefully, there will be a third book soon too!
