I won't complain about the genre shift midway through the book. Nor will I complain about the focus on developing plots for future books. In fact, I enjoyed that. The lesser subplot and the John subplot are what made the book worth reading. I will complain however, on the lack of development for this book. Phury deserves so much better than than. This is a male who shot his leg off to save his brother. The one who seemed the most dignified of the bunch. He deserved a female character with so much more substance than what was written. Cormia was just as bland as her surroundings. Both these characters were unstable and poorly written. What could have been a beautiful love story filled with redemption and passion, came up full of selfish motivations and mental illness. Not only that, but this is the only relationship in the series that has resulted in the division of the brotherhood. All in all, worth the read if you like action. Very disappointing if you are looking for a romance novel. By the way, I still do not understand the wizard. That was a very poorly written curveball as well.
