Synopsis

New York Times bestselling author Linda Fairstein returns with a ripped-from-the-headlines thriller that takes Alexandra Cooper into the dark underside of New York City's most storied restaurants and a murder case spanning continents.

While Alexandra Cooper is in France visiting her famed restaurateur boyfriend, Luc Rouget, one of his matchboxes promoting his new restaurant is found on the body of a murdered young woman. But before the investigation begins, Alex is summoned back to New York.

The distinguished and wealthy Head of the World Economic Bureau has been arrested and accused of attacking a maid in his hotel. Alex prepares the alleged victim to testify, but when a second body is found with Luc's matchbox, she begins to fear that the two cases may not be as unrelated as she thought, and that uncovering the sordid secrets of the city's most wealthy and powerful could cost her and her loved ones everything they hold dear.

Night Watch is another great book in Linda Fairsteins Alex Cooper series. I really like Alex as a character and the books are interesting and enlightening, funny and real with believable characters that you remember. As a semiregular visitor to NYC I really like the history of The City that she provides in every novel and the importance of final Jeopardy is so hilarious and so true! The novel opens with Alex om vacation in the south of France, spending time with her restaurateur lover Luc. hey are having a lovely time, throwing parties and sampling different restaurant fare in the are. Then two events happen nearly simultaneously...the body of a former employer and friend of Lucs exwife Brigette is found dead on his property and Alex receives a phone call from her office telling her of an important rape case that involves a famous person and she had to get back to the U S ASAP. While working on the frustrating case she is trying to find out what connection Luc had to the murdered woman especially when a second body turns up in New York with hints to his connection. It is a fascinating read but I must confess that at times I felt like the story was bogged down with too much detail. It took nearly 100 pages before things really started to get moving in both cases. That si the reason i did not give the book five stars. It is a great book and if you are a fan of this series a must read and if you havent read Linda Fairstein yet you should give her a try! The Bone Vault is what got me hooked on her books.
