There was lots of background to many of the characters stories, not just the main characters but even secondary ones. Just as the story was finally building up to the climax though, the author started hurriedly presenting large pieces of the story almost as an afterthought. What really could have been tons of action and forward movement in the story was summed up in a couple of unsatisfying paragraphs, almost like they just printed her outline of the book. I had to go back and reread several pages at one point because I thought I must have skipped some text somehow. The characters were suddenly moved from one location to an entirely different situation with absolutely nothing to get them there, no explanation. It was a rushed ending, and Im not sure whether the author was under a page constraint or not, but it was not a satisfying ending. Sure, the characters got together at the end, but there was no reason for them to fall in love other than theyd dreamed of each other a few times. If it were a movie or TV show it might as well have said To Be Continued at the end of the last page.In the end, this book felt like it was printed just to fill in some backstory between the first and the next book in this series. I like the world shes created, and Ive liked most of her other books, so Ill likely still pick up the next book, if only to see what happens with the other characters presented in this unfinished story.
