Synopsis

This police procedural won the Mystery Writers of America's 2006 Edgar Award for Best First Novel. Chicago police office Samantha 'Smack' Mack has to cancel a date to help her ex-partner and ex-lover, Fred, bust a child molester. Her evening only gets worse; the arrest goes sour, she gets hit on the head, and she awakes from a severe concussion to learn that Fred's been shot and killed...with her gun.
