Meet Skulduggery Pleasant
Ace detective
Snappy dresser
Razor—tongued wit
Crackerjack sorcerer
and
walking, talking, fire-throwing skeleton
As well as ally, protector, and mentor of Stephanie Edgely, a very unusual and darkly talented twelve-year-old.
These two alone stand in the way of an all-consuming ancient evil.
Both the kids and adults will enjoy this - not too scary, not too creepy, and a good dose of humor. Degas' narration is superb. While the music/sound effects did, at times, become repetitive to my adult ears, the kids loved it.
Harry Potter fan or no, this is a fun listen. The narrator, Rupert Degas, does an excellent job with the characters. The music is perfect in its enjoyable creepiness with a touch of jazz. Humorous, adventurous, a load of fun. I suspect there will be sequels and I can't wait. How will the author sustain the wit and adventure? I'll leave Derek Landy to worry about that I'll just look forward to the next installment.
