They promised Meredith nine years of safety, but only gave her three.
Her father was supposed to be locked up until Meredith turned eighteen. She thought she had time to grow up, get out, and start a new life. But Meredith is only fifteen, and today her father is coming home from prison.
Today her time has run out.
I'll admit, the reason i got this book from the library was because the main girl's name is meredith, same as mine, only hers has less r's. it's the story of a girl who was sexually abused by her dad. he abused a bunch of kids and was sent away to jail, but is released early, and her mom is still in love with him and blames meredith, so she eagerly takes him back. now meredith must figure out how to survive with her abusive dad back. this is a sad book, and i really feel that the mom is as messed up in her head as the pedophile dad is. you might say that it's not that realistic that ALL of these people would fail this teenaged girl, especially a second time, but sadly, i'm betting it's pretty common. on the side is the story of meredith's boyfriend, who happens to have ALSO been sexually abused by the same meredith's dad when he was a boy, and the way he reacts to that vs the way she does. i put it's only ok, because despite the potential this whole thing has, it still felt just only ok. writing and developmentally wise
