Minette Walters is a brilliant writer, and that is why I do not like reading her books. This one like all her others draws you right into the violent, scary world that her characters live in. There is no cosy here in her Britain or her worldview. No escape from the newspapers, the nightly news or the cruelty of life. It is very hard to put down her books and this is no exception. The world is a scarier place each time you read her books, and if you are like me, you have to go and read an Agatha Christie to feel safe again in your delusion of a good world.
