Rent The Double

Synopsis

An alienated history teacher named Tertuliano M'ximo Afonso is watching a video one night when he spots an actor who looks exactly like himself, right down to the last little mole and scar. Becoming obsessed with the man, Afonso goes to frantic lengths to find out his name, watch all his movies, and finally seek him out. When he succeeds in doing so, the actor is resentful, obnoxious, and rivalrous. In Nobel Prizewinner Jos' Saramago's absurdist fantasy, the hero becomes, paradoxically, more himself, more involved in his own life, once he discovers the existence of a double against whom he must challenge himself.
