In the ruins of a place once known as North America lies the nation of Panem, a shining Capitol surrounded by twelve outlaying districts. The Capitol is harsh and cruel and keeps the districts in line by forcing them all to send one girl and one boy between the ages of twelve and eighteen to participate in the annual Hunger Games, a fight to the death on live TV. Sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen, who lives alone with her mother and younger sister, regards it as a death sentence when she is forced to represent her district in the Games. But Katniss has also resolved to outwit the creators of the games. To do that she will have to be the last person standing at the end of the deadly ordeal, and that will take every ounce of strength and cunning she has.
This is a wonderful, fast-paced, adventure written for young adults, but VERY MUCH enjoyed by old adults. If you ever wanted to share with your daughter a strong female character who faces difficult decisions and impossible choices, this is your chance! My book club spent hours discussing this book, so deep, so rich, so relevant!
This book as well as the others in this series were absolutely great.. Unlike many YA books, was written smartly enough to keep my nonya attention. Easy read yet a great story. Very thought provolking. Makes you really think what if. Great read for all.
This book was amazing! I loved reading it! It kept me up late into the night and when I did go to bed, everytime I woke up, I was thinking about the book.Suzanne Collins does an excellent job of writing her characters and setting her book in this made up world.I would definitely recommend this book and whole series to anyone.
to see the movie!!! Wonderful story!
