Synopsis

Vladimir Girshkin, the son in a Russian family in New York City in 1993, is forced to leave town when he gets into trouble with a drug dealer. He escapes to the Eastern European city of Prava (the creation of the author), where he is soon involved with a fraudulent moneymaking scheme involving a literary magazine. Then he has to flee yet again....In a postscript, Vladimir reveals what has become of him, and indulges in some nostalgia for his formerly wild life. A New York Times Notable Book for 2002.
